as if time hadn’t passed

We got chatting to a local at the pub on Friday evening and discovered that there is a family in the village who have just moved out of their farm property that literally fell down around their ears (never having had electric, water or other supplies) and they now live in their other village house that ALSO has no electric etc. They are not in any way poor – they are landowners – a lot of land. Who’d have thought in these days of technology and satellite and mobile phones and broadband that, living just yards from us, there are people who still live by candle light and keep warm by only open fires. A fascinating real-life tale.
