More garden projects and first swallows

The front garden is SO much better with gravel. My only regret is not doing it before now. I have been growing cosmos from seed and sweet peas. Someone came and dug over the borders and covered them with a good bark mulch.

Its all ready now for a good display in late spring into summer.

We also have one or two birds nesting. A pair of Great Tits, and blackbirds who are nesting the ivy on the front of the house.

The first swallows were over the house on 18th April. A bit early than last year.

My sister gave me an old stone trough which I have planted up with succulents. I have not grown them before so hope they thrive and I dont kill them!

Dentistry for Rosie Posie Poodle

Rosie had been off colour and her food for a little while. Nothing really showed up at her checkup in late February but in early April I took her to the vet and poor thing had an access under a tooth and was in pain. I wish Id known.

She had to have an operation and the result was she had 9 teeth out. Bless her. I spent the day of her operation with Sally doing things to take my mind off it as I was so nervous about her having a general anaesthetic. She bounced back quickly and got her appetite back.

Edinburgh and Royal Yacht Britannia

We took the train to Edinburgh in lovely crisp sun. We got a cab from the station to Leith to go and have a tour around the Royal Yacht Britannia. Its really interesting and a lovely ship. I was a little surprised at the lack of opulence in the Royal bedrooms, especially the Queens. Just an ordinary single bed, dresser, chair and table. What I enjoyed most was seeing the crews quarters, the bridge and learning that the piano in the grand salon had been played by Noel Coward. Also had a lovely lunch!

We had a little wander around the city afterwards before getting the train home. I managed to find the hidden 17C garden off the Royal Mile that I had read about. Dunbars Close.

Thank you Hector – a lovely day.

Siskins in the garden

It is always lovely to have the dainty plucky little siskins at the bird feeders.

Fun party at the pub

Great fun doing The Supremes “You Can’t Hurry Love” to a ‘turn’ at the pub this evening! Maurice (cool moves for a game keeper), Rose and Hector.
