A weekend in Lincolnshire

I braved bad weather and drove over to Lincolnshire to stay with my dearest friend. We had a lovely gentle time and spent quite a long time in the hot tub!
We even had a wintry walk on the beach at Cleethorpes.

Durham Lumiere

For my birthday we went to Durham for Lumiere. We stayed at a gorgeous B&B nearby the city…. Burnhopeside Hall. Fabulous hall down a long drive in acres of grounds. Such a nice woman runs it – we were made so welcome. I definitely want to go back for a longer stay!

The rain did not put us off the Lumiere and the city. We started at the Cathedral. The light show and music there was spine-tinglingly wonderful. Then we joined a large throng of people heading down the narrow road to see more of Lumiere. We enjoyed some mulled wine while we queued to see the light show of a whale breaching in the river. It was beautiful – and so realistic with whalesong. After a while in pouring rain you jut can’t get any wetter so it didn’t matter! There was much we didn’t get to see but it doesn’t matter – we can go another year.

Each of us is in these photos of the Gingerbread lighting on a large plain building… but we are lit up too!

We came home via Corbridge… I like a stop at Corbridge to see visit the really interesting shops there. There is also the best artisan bakery! Just wonderful stuff in there. The Tyne was up gig by the town. Very high levels of flow.

Grace Dent. Lordy I love that woman.

Grace Dent. Lordy I love that woman. Writes what I think even though it’s in my subconscious, and with immense humour and clarity!
For the specific attention of Suzanne Forster who as I write is in the queue to see U2 in Glasgow!
(I am not jealous in any way. Really I’m not!)

Allotment envy!

My lovely friend has got her first allotment.
It is a thing of beauty in a lovely rural area.
She has worked very hard to clear it and plans a fruit cage and lots of lovely fruit and veg.
I look forward to meeting here there and having a flask of tea in a quiet spring evening.

Dunched my lovely car!

Mid October.
Gales meant the trees were dropping twigs and some hefty branches and driving to work in the dar, albeit slowly, I had no chance to avoid a large branch in the road and ploughed right into it.
The bumper was hanging off but luckily no damage to the headlights or bodywork.I wedged the bumper back on and went to work. When i got light I went to take a closer look and decided it was best to take it to our garage and get it checked on my way home. Luckily it was only the bumper and not damage in the engine. Still cost thought to have a new one fitted.

Paternal family gathering – followed by more ancestry research

For the first time ever my paternal family had a gathering. Im sure Dad would have loved it – but having lost him in the early 1980s and his brother, my uncle, some years before, a lot of people there were not family I knew. My Great aunt Carole did a wonderful job of arranging it in Beverley – where most of the family still live.
I met family I had never heard of, some I knew of but had never met and some I had not seen for many years. The family is quite small – we are not many with the surname.
Hector and I stayed at the Beverley Arms and also hot chance to catch up with some maternal family members who live there too.
I was all fired up when we got home and re joined an ancestry search group and spent many hours populating the family tree.
