Sitootery and Wisteria

The sitootery is feeling and looking pretty good now.
Even Frank Cat thinks so…
Their are cherries and pears maturing on the trees.

Village Open Gardens

Each year gardens in our village are opened for an afternoon (for charity). A few friends opened theirs and on the evening before we joined Liz and Tom in their stunning garden (the inspiration for my creating our ‘sitter’) for Pimms. A very pleasant and warm and sociable evening.

Open Garden Day
After a week of hot weather and some thunderstorms the open garden day was mostly sunny and I had the company of Frank to go and visit them. Some of the gardens here are absolutely stunning! Gems.
It was so nice to see them and to catch up with friends who were enjoying having company in their gardens.
When we got back at 5pm when the event ended we sat outside and bang on cue the heavens opened and a bit of a storm.

Durham and Magna Carta

We had a day trip to Durham (I love the city!) especially to see the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta Exhibition. It was fascinating. The documents really draw you in. Knowing how important it was and that someone created them 800 years ago.
Then we had lunch in the Cathedral grounds and while Hector had a few minutes to read the paper I spent an hour in my favourite shop – East.

Proud Auntie Fi

Clare is off to Newcastle medical school in autumn to start her studies to become a Doctor. She already has a degree and is a paramedic and this is a wonderful step to an even more fulfilling and great career. Before she heads to Newcastle to live Sis and I met with Clare at Larch Cottage for a farewell cake and coffee morning.
I am SO proud of her.

Hot hot hot

This week has been hot and muggy. I completely missed the thunderstorm sadly. Slept through it.

It has been wonderful to finally see some summer.

Today it felt like being in Italy in the garden. The wisteria is amazing at the moment. Lush and highly scented.

Family sports day

We had a trip to Chesterfield to meet over 20 of Hectors family for cricket and a picnic. Its a great park area and we had sunshine for most of the day. It was SO good to see everyone.
What a lovely bunch of fun loving folks.

More Sitootery primping!

Last summer was the first for our new Sitootery yard. It was great then, but this year we have made a few primping changes, additions and moving around. I absolutely love it out there. A bit of heaven….
Been moving around some of the ‘sitootery’ plants in pots and chairs etc. Its only 11ft x 10ft but there are now two seating areas, one at the table with two metal chairs and also a wood bench down the step by the lusher planting and the bubbling water feature. I’ve moved the espaliered pear to another wall too.
Just the one injury… A swollen wrist after dropping one heavy drop leaf of the table onto my hand. I might have said a ‘word’.

Larch Cottage Nursery

For three weekends in a row I visited Larch Cottage Nurseries and had lunch too!
Once alone, once with Sally (when we were there three whole hours plant searching too!) and once with Jane and Clare.
If you sit on the veranda their is a tame blackbird that takes crumbs straight out of your hand. I love it.

Don’t mind if I do – with Hector away having a Father’s Day weekend with his son I reckon I deserved it after spending two hours cutting back ivy, and later doing loads of washing.

Remembering dad

We lost Dad in June 1982 way back when I was in my early 20s. He’d be an old man now but I think he’d still have a cheeky smile and quirky intelligence. He was a bit of a charmer who liked company.
This is him way back in around 1928.

Mr and Mrs Froggy

Froggy has got a friend!
So pleased to see a new companion for the frog in our tiny ceramic sink pond!

I admit it – I am a FlightRadar addict

Screen Shot 2015-07-03 at 19.44.45
When I nosey into FlightRadar I often see the tracks of small planes going up to Hadrians Wall area and just flying back and forward in a pattern, to and fro. Why? And why there?

Trees in all their glory

The colours on these two trees over the wall in the churchyard are glorious in late evening sunlight

And now… the Shipping Forecast

My favourite artist Jane Tomlinson – lovely lady to! – was inspired to paint a representation of the Shipping forecast. Its wonderful and I am so happy to have a print framed in our downstairs cloakroom.
