Sink news!
Our new hand built sink unit and new mixer taps are finally finished…. It”s been a two year wait. I”m especially pleased with the ceramic knobs I found online. It looks like it”s always been here, which is good coz nothing is new in the house and modern would have looked awful.
What an improvement. The old one was literally from the 1960s and falling to bits.

Whiskey from the Lakes
Not a big whiskey fan, but am sorely tempted by a bottle of the new whiskey distiller in The Lake District. Very tempted.

Looks wonderful – a fairytale home

Been watching the Belgian (in Dutch) drama Salamander on iPlayer. Brilliant. And a very attractive and sexy hero!

Sad that my Great Aunt Leonora, a real English rose, has died….at the ripe old age of 92. She was the wife of my fathers late Uncle Sydney.

Oh goody. I just earned £70 from Google AdSense for advert clicks from my films on YouTube. Nice surprise. Thats a day out that is! With luncheon!

I am back at Slimming World. Now that some other things in life are getting sorted out I feel that its now or never to drop some weight! I””””ve GOT to succeed this time.

We went to see 12 Years a Slave.Stunningly filmed and wonderful lack of noise, no heavy duty soundtrack. You can hear every breath and rustle of grass.
A harrowing film, all the more so as it is based on truth and what happened to Soloman Northropp. Don””””t try and eat popcorn if you go to see 12 Years a Slave. There is a lot of silence in the film! It makes it atmospheric but I suggest sucky sweets

As a late birthday pressie for Hector and coincidentally for Valentines Day we went out for an Indian meal in town. Very good it was too…..

We have booked a summer holiday cottage in Northumberland. Just behind the dunes at Dunstonburgh. BLISS! Hows this for a view!!!!…

I would like to congratulate my Great Niece – the beautiful Annabel Tilly Work, on achieving a place at Ballet West on the shores of the gorgeous Loch Etive. I am very proud of you…. and will never forget when you were little and we joined in with Morris Dancing at Beverley Festival (my achilles tendon was never the same!)

Brilliant. My blood test from a check up, and my cholesterol is the lowest it has been since I first had it checked…. And blood pressure is also lower than ever, still not ideal, but much better. No meds required and keep doing what I””””m doing.

Well, fancy that!
Great Salkeld voted as a top romantic date site!

19th Feb… bird count today so far…!
Redpolls, dunnock, robin, blue tit, great tit, coal tit, sparrows, blackbirds, goldfinches, chaffinches, wren.
It must be almost spring… I am considering new flop flops!

Free delish hot choc at Booths using my loyalty card? Don”t mind if I do!

I buy Frank Cat a perfectly whizzy proper scratching post complete with ball and bell and what does he prefer? To wrap himself around a kitchen chair leg and spin like a Catherine Wheel?

Hector and I went to Tullie House in Carlisle to see the automata exhibits – funfair and circus style. Some amazing pieces! HELP …. Classic Beatles fun with automata at Tullie House.

FINALLY decided how to imporve the enclosed back yard. GRAVEL!!! Quickly done and relatively cheaply too. Now to plan the rest.My lovely friend who has a holiday home in the village – Liz – is a garden genius, and came over for coffee and we chatted through ideas and colours and have hatched a plan. Simple style – mostly lavender and pink cosmos in terracotta tubs and wooden seat and lavender wall and some thoughts how to create curves….

Top down on the way home and a clear sky. Couldn”t resist a couple of iPad photos… And the photo of the viaduct arches won the weekly iPhoneography Challenge (B&W architecture).

Rosie has a ”spa” day…

I found a new dog groomer for Rosie. Its a bit of a distance away so while I waited for her to be done, I found a wonderful cafe in Morland. THe best cheese scones I have ever had and a lovely place to spend an hour or so. I will definitely be back!
Rosie looked really good after her session too. MUCH better than I can do with the clippers. Obviously.

January 2014

Writing this in late March means its all a bit vague (I blame my age) but here goes….

Hurrah. From this month I am stepping back from a five day working week to a 4 day working week. Lordy it”ll feel gooooood. It”ll be good too to be able to get down to see Mum more often.

First non working Friday and a soggy walk at Glenridding (Lordy the Lake was VERY high over the meadow) and tea n chocs with Mum in Ambleside.

Look who has taken up residence on our finial!
We”ve had him a year or so but only now just got around to getting some kind person to put him up there – its WAY too high up for us. We don”t do ladders!

Did you know that an old name for a Snowdrop is DINGLE DANGLE? Isn”t that just lovely.

I came joint second in the iPhoneography challenge last week with this (16:9 was the theme)…. It was taken after emerging from cloud as I drove down the Struggle from Kirkstone Pass into Ambleside.

I”ve spruced up the Juliet balcony this evening with a new voile panel. I love the Swedish style!

I just don””t get this. Its astonishing. These people live a punishing life style. Imagine getting up at 4.30 am and commuting hours and hours and not getting home til gone 9 pm. What”s the point of going home just to sleep?

A good idea of Hectors to get the train to Horton-in-Ribblesdale on the Settle-Carlisle line on such a lovely day. A nice bracing walk, a muddy poodle and scenery to knock your socks off. We took the Settle – Carlisle railway line for a day out to Horton in Ribblesdale – taking Rosie of course. We were lucky to get some bright and sunny weather, a nice short walk along part of the Dales Way.

Sally and I had a day out at Bowes Museum at New Year. Ostensibly it was to see the Laura Ashley clothing exhibition (I wore those dresses all the time back in the day!) Real nostalgia and a trip into the past, especially the 1970s. We got there and had coffee and cake, then took a break for lunch there and before we set off home we had tea and cake. The exhibition was great and well worth the trip. The rest of the museum is fascinating too. A lovely man took our photo in the frame that was set up for children to dress up in Laura Ashley clothes. I wish I had worn something I have by Laura Ashley in my wardrobe!…. What a lovely day Sally and I had.
As always SO much to see at Bowes and the restaurant is great…. 3 visits to that! A stunning sunset lit our journey home… Plus, I found Hubert the tea-cosy cat and brought him home….

Our village Burns Night event at the end of January.
Jack addressing the haggis – no overacting here!! Oh yes there was!
And some rolling the pound games after the quiz – at which we didn”t exactly shine, but it WAS all about Scotland of course, so we didn”t expect to.

Christmas break

It was SO good to have almost two weeks break over Christmas. Hector had to be on call for some of it, but for the most part it was relaxing and a quiet time. For me, knowing that when I went back to work in the new year it was to start a new four day week which I have looked forward to for a long time.
