Christmas pub quiz

Back on form or WHAT!
The Christmas pub quiz evening was a capacity crowd – LOADS of teams. I stayed til the last round, but wanted a good nights sleep before the last day at the office before Christmas. I knew we were doing OK before that, but it seems we were joint first! Only getting pipped at the post by a tie-breaker.
Our team mates were Maurice, Kelvin and barman John.

Family Christmas

The weekend before Christmas was my own familys little Christmas do. It was so good to have Sis, Bruv, Niece and I all there for Mum.
Though I say it myself – Clare (Niece) was looking so sweet in this picture with Rosie.

Stepping back…

At the end of December I worked my last Friday. From January I am moving to a four day week. Its been long-planned. Partly scary (can”t afford it!) but it”ll be so good to not have to do that 5th day. It”ll give more time for a lot of things I would like to do. See family more, get more done at home… etc.

The Earls do their first (and last) gig

They made it. By the skin of their teeth, it all came good and the Earls (Hector, Joe and Dave) played a short giggy thing at the pub.
My big Christmas surprise for Hector was that his son, step-daughter and her partner were coming and he didn”t know. It was hard keeping it secret, but am so glad we did. His face was a picture when we got to the pub and they were all there! I”ll never forget it.
The band did a really good session and everyone in the pub really enjoyed it. I stayed way later than I usually do at the pub (2am) and apparently Hector was still there at 4. There were some deserved thick heads the next day.

DIY doesn”t always pay off

Shouldn”t have started clipping Rosie. I”m too tired and it hasn”t gone well…. She looks embarrassed and disappointed and I”m wondering how to disguise a couple of her rather bald patches. Perhaps I should put her in a Poodle ”onesie” until it”s grown back!

More hassle

Trundling along the dark country lanes on my way home…. First my way suddenly blocked by two, dawdling like old ladies, pigs (not seen any on these roads before), then an owl appeared from nowhere above the car bonnet (lovely sight) and then on the narrowest stretch in woods beside a drop to the river a flippin” coach which in no way would back up. I had to reverse for ages which is difficult in my car with a soft top plastic rear window, and with more cars coming along behind also having to reverse. Very eventful journey”

Cheese and Wine

The village hall was the venue for the annual local Cricket Club fund raising Cheese and Wine bash. VERY pleasant. Lots of wine, and of course cheese. Enjoyable few hours.

Lovely memories of kittens

Just noticed that this picture of mine on Flickr, of one of Frank Cats brothers as kitten, has had around 35,000 views! HOW MANY?

It makes me happy when so many and varied species of birds come to our garden feeders. I”ve moved the hanging feeders nearer the lounge window….

The big time

Hector has been practicing a lot with Dave and Joe for their gig at the pub. Maybe the big time is just around the corner.
In the final week before the little gig there were some hitches, but these were taken at a practice that I went along to and enjoyed a lot.

Beautiful early morning

Late November and a very early morning walk at sunrise to the river. It was beautiful. It was the calm before a, personally, stormy few days and no sleep and stress. Not a pleasant week or so.

November 2013

Richard II played by David Tennant. A Shaespearean coup! What a guy. Thank you Sally for a wonderful evening. It was a live screening of the play from Stratford on Avon. What a treat. Champers and everything!
Richard II dramatizes the downfall of, you guessed it, King Richard II (1367-1400), a lousy English king who gets bumped off the throne by Henry Bolingbroke (a.k.a. King Henry IV) and then tossed in the slammer, where he experiences an identity crisis bigger than King Lears (and maybe even Hamlets) before he is finally put out of his misery (ie. murdered). Basically, it is the story of a major power shift in 14th century England, which means the play is one giant political soap opera. Thereis even a weird sex scandal (Act 3, Scene 1) that might give ex-US Congressman Anthony Weiner, former US Prez Bill Clinton, or the ex-“Governator” of California Arnold Schwarzenegger a run for their money.

Cozy n warm

On a fine and autumnal sunday afternoon Hector and I had a really special walk at Lowther. The woodland area was glorious!

Lollykin (much loved daughter of my best friend) stayed with us a couple of nights (she was in the area for a family event) and it was great to see her. Just great.

My birthday mid November – did not do much but spent a day in the Lakes visiting Mum and Sis. Sis and I had a lovely walk down to Milleground at Windermere, waling on the path past he house we grew up in. A lovely couple of hours.

October in a nutshell

I have been remiss again keeping this all up to date…. busy is not my only excuse!

So, October….

Well -starting with late September and a real treat for Sally and I. We took the Gardeners Question Time train on the glorious Settle to Carlisle line for a recording of GQT aboard the train. It was a really good day. A wonderful atmosphere on the train and my question was one chosen to put to the panel. I knew I hadd messed up the recording as soon as I began because I forgot to say where I was from. But, meeting the panel and the really lovely Pippa Greenwood who was a lovely and friendly woman was the thrill. Sally and I ALWAYS have a blast on our little outings!

Sally and I also had a really lovely autumnal walk at Edenhall. A PERFECT way to start the weekend. A last minute sunshine evening walk with Sally Logue , Roxy dog and Rosie to the river at Edenhall. Lovely evening. And some great fun spying some MASSIVE Conkers and Sally managing to get them from the tree.
Enormous conkers!

Hector and I had a super evening with Adele and Ray. Chatter, home made curry and bhagis (v good by the way) guitar playing and great music!

Hector has got us tickets for some of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next summer. It will be my first major sporting event. Very exciting.

Rosie waiting for me at a farm shop….

Too tempting to drive past….. Got some eggs and conserves.

It might be the Daily Mail web site But I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE this little £3,000 house! Fabulous! What a truly wonderful space to call home.

There is nothing Rosie likes more than snuggling up in a pile of washing queuing at the washing machine! This was at Sallys house and Jess here was very amused.

Hector took Ross to London and they saw a big footie match. A great lads weekend.

I have got to get me some tickets for a local performance – been meaning to for years. So so so funny.

A bit random…. How about this for a regularly used and laundered tea towel! 1983 calendar. So almost 31 years old! Just realised as I was putting it away after washing….

My very lovely and artistic friend displays teapots and cups in her kitchen BEAUTIFULLY.

We went to Glasgow to see Peter Gabriel at the new Hydro venue. Our hotel was great – just a Premier Inn but I was very impressed with our 14th floor room and the view!

The gig was wonderful (tho I was suffering from vertigo in the hugely steep seating) and a big highlight was meeting a media buddy in the flesh for the first time. So happy to have met Suzanne!

Heavens. Apparently two national papers used my photos (starlings of course) and one included a pic of me. What I said and the info is all reworked but you would expect that.

Thats exciting…. a new book has just arrived. Very plush and a wonderful creation by author John Nowell.
It also supports Air Ambulance Service. AND it has – at first count – at least 20 of my photographs in it, including one of me.
“A Day Above the Lake District” – a perfect Christmas present methinks!! Published this week.
