Thanks to Pete I knew about these fantastic weather conditions and was able to dash up to Hartside Pass with the camera. It was magical and eerie and stunning. It was like the terrible floods and tragedy of the last ten days here in Cumbria was healing under the same force of weather.

Cumbria is swathed in cloud bandages after ten terrible days of floods and tragedy

That’s the Eden Valley under all that cloud. Amazing conditions below Hartside. The thick clouds below were forming ribbon streamers that moved up at the fells edge and drifted past us into the blue sky. It was eerie and beautiful. Like a man I met up there said "There isn’t much that’s beautiful these days – but this is!".

See where this picture was taken. [?]

Busy busy busy

Its been SO busy lately and there is nothing we have done to report on…. we survived without scathing the Cumbria floods that have so devastated our county. Today is the funeral for the policeman who was killed when the bridge he was on crumbled into the swollen river. Sad time.
Work-wise its been bonkers for me. Head whirling with it and needing a few days duvet-in-a-laundry–basket hibernation.

This evening H is taking me out for a belated birthday dinner. I hope for something with goats cheese and something creme brulee-ish. We have to dash back though for a village meeting thing sadly.

Hector is going to be away for a week after tonight – a boys weekend with his friends and then some work stuff. I’m going to be trying to get some chores done over the week and on Friday Sally and I are going to see a Gospel Choir. A bit different! Might be nice – Christmasy almost?

Sheep may safely graze or as Bach actually composed it “Schafe können sicher weiden”

While the weather is so awful and we are confined to the house and stove-side with a steady supply of cups of tea and some little lemon cakes (!) I am enjoying some further experimenting with some of today’s shots from a little expedition to the Eden River earlier in the morning.

The last 2 days has seen this county of ours engulfed in floods, rivers becoming fast flowing fierce torrents, bridges collapsing, homes and businesses under several feet of muddy filthy water. Sadly PC Bill Barker was swept to his death when the bridge he was guarding collapsed under him. Terrible. Tragedy.

These sheep were on the only little bit of dry (ish) land in a huge field in the Eden Valley which had become part of the flowing river.

Weekend off

A weekend of treats in store. My birthday… tea with Mum and Sis on Friday, a day just He and I on Saturday and some birthday treats (or so I’m told!) and on Sunday maybe a walk and gardening and on Monday lunch out with the adorable Sally.

November – already

Its been a nice couple of weeks. Saw Sally and Jess for supper during the week and also began our stint at locking/unlocking the church.
Lovely weekend at home and on Sunday night the pub quiz with Fiona and Chris. This time Heather came too with Alex and their daughter and boyfriend to make up a team. We were 2nd this time and enjoyed it a lot. Was great to see everyone.
On Monday we headed down to Sheffield for a party and stayed overnight at a hotel He uses when he stays there for work. It was a fun evening. I drove home and left him there for work and on Tuesday afternoon we got ourselves an ironing lady/’lady-that-does’. Phew! Margaret starts on Monday. Can’t wait. Anyone who know me know just how much I LOATHE ironing.
